MINNICOCK AND ACID SENSITIVITY

1982 Summer Newsletter

The April 1982 Ministry of the Environment report on acid sensitivity indicates that Minnicock is a level 4 lake. At this level sensitivity is low and biological damage is likely only under extreme snow-melt conditions during spring run-off. Two lakes in Haliburton County, Crystal and McDonald, have zero or negative alkalinity and are technically dead. Some level 2 lakes extremely sensitive to heavy acid loadings are Kennisis, Koshlong, Raven and Little Buckhorn. For a complete listing of lakes surveyed by district write to:

The acid rain situation may be temporarily ameliorated this summer by the Inco shutdown at Sudbury.
